I've always been enchanted by the magic of the southwest—especially New Mexico—and I'm excited to share my adventures and imagination with you through my original creative art.
Hello. I'm Lori Colt—artist behind the name Coyote and Chamisa Art. I reside in New Mexico where I spend much of my time exploring wild lands and painting. I have participated in many group shows and have my art in private collections throughout the United States. I adore native critters and plants, hence the name I've given my business. Chamisa is a native plant that is also called Rabbitbrush.

Much of my current work is in acrylic and gouache, although I do dabble in pastels, watercolors and pen and ink. I enjoy creating quirky and sometimes fantastical paintings using lots of color and detail. I am guided by curiosity and passion and it is exciting to watch nature reveal herself in a myriad of ways in my southwest paintings.
Native landscapes, and their inhabitants, provide the duality of both subject and meaning for my wall art. Exploring wildlands of the southwest, I seek out ways to pay homage to these alluring, vulnerable places. I consider it a great privilege to live on this once indigenous land, surrounded by first nation pueblos and badlands, where each day offers something new to discover.
There is magic and power in the unpopulated spaces of the American West that present an invitation for one to pause and listen. I endeavor to interpret, translate, and render the distinctive beauty I see on paper and canvas.
I promise you won't be bombarded with emails, just an occasional update on sales, exhibits and happenings.
